East Dunbartonshire FC was founded by Andy Bonar when a group of coaches and players left another local club in 2002.
The club began with seven to eight teams from under 8s to under 12s and the club has continued to grow every year. We now have 27 teams; 13 at 11-a-sides for 12 to 17 year olds, 12 at 7-a-sides for 8 to 12 year olds, with the soccer academy catering for 4 to 8 year olds.
We now also have a full Amateur team catering for young adults.
Overall we have somewhere approaching 450 kids and 75 coaches qualified at varying levels, no mean feat in under 7 years and we are still growing.
EDFC has quite a unique policy of all inclusiveness; We do not discriminate in terms of ability up to participation in 11-a-sides at the age of 12 and in some cases beyond. This is quite unusual in Youth Football where the emphasis to win and cherry pick players is often carried out at too early an age .We believe in the ethos of youth development and recognise that some children take longer to develop both skills and confidence. It is this ethos which has helped our club grow so quickly and successfully to become one of the largest youth football clubs in the West of Scotland. Over time we firmly believe that we will profit from this strategy which was instrumental in the founding of our club.
The club train mainly in schools in the Bishopbriggs area although we have boys and girls from all over East Dunbartonshire and North Glasgow. 11-a-side teams compete in the Cumbernauld & Kilsyth District Youth League with home pitches at Thorn and Colquhoun Parks in Bearsden and St.Helens in Bishopbriggs. The 7-a-side teams compete in the East Dunbartonshire Soccer Sevens Association on Saturday mornings at various locations. The Amateur team compete in the Strathclyde Saturday Morning League. Monthly club meeting are held in Allan Glens Sports Club , Bishopbriggs.
The club will hold an annual football festival in June at Allan Glens Sports Club in Bishopbriggs of which this will be the fourth year.
